POSITION: Engineering Technician

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting the Engineering Operations team in testing, validating, and troubleshooting passive and active optical telecommunications network devices using a wide variety of networking equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Technically support operations in the production and testing of optical transceivers and other active and passive optical network devices.
  • Create and update configuration codes to be programmed into optical network devices.
  • Create and update test procedures for optical network devices.
  • Test and validate compatibility of optical network devices with various types/models of networking equipment.
  • Evaluate optical network devices to validate operational parameters/specifications and generate datasheets for new devices.
  • Configure and maintain equipment in a multi-vendor production test lab.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Computer, Electrical, or Network Engineering Technology Associate with 3+ years relevant experience
  • Experience as a network engineer/operator a plus
  • Experience with passive and active optical equipment a plus

COMPETENCIES:

  • Understanding of basic digital communications and systems
  • Familiarity with optical characteristics and specifications 
  • Familiarity with optical networking equipment, protocols, and topologies
  • Expertise in data and/or transport networks a plus
  • Familiarity with CO/Head End/Lab physical plant and power design a plus  
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional time management skills, strong attention to detail and self-motivation
