Le projet a \u00e9t\u00e9 rendu possible gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un prix du Centre pour l&#039;avancement des sciences dans l&#039;espace, en abr\u00e9g\u00e9 CASIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Si les tests r\u00e9ussissent, des fibres optiques spatiales seront fabriqu\u00e9es pour une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d&#039;applications sur Terre, en particulier pour les t\u00e9l\u00e9communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L&#039;avantage de la fabrication spatiale est d\u00fb \u00e0 la microgravit\u00e9 dans la r\u00e9gion orbitale de la Terre, qui est th\u00e9oris\u00e9e pour fournir un environnement id\u00e9al pour la croissance des fibres de verre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lorsque des fibres poussent \u00e0 la surface de la Terre, la gravit\u00e9 cr\u00e9e des impuret\u00e9s et des structures microcristallines \u00e0 l&#039;int\u00e9rieur des fibres. Ces imperfections r\u00e9duisent la qualit\u00e9 de la fibre car elles inhibent l&#039;absorption de la lumi\u00e8re et augmentent la diffusion, ce qui entra\u00eene une d\u00e9gradation du signal particuli\u00e8rement pr\u00e9judiciable lorsque les donn\u00e9es sont transmises sur de longues distances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les fibres optiques fabriqu\u00e9es dans l&#039;espace, produites par un syst\u00e8me de tirage de fibre miniature optimis\u00e9, devraient \u00eatre beaucoup plus claires et exemptes de formations de microcristaux induites par la gravit\u00e9. Bien que le nouveau produit n&#039;ait pas \u00e9t\u00e9 test\u00e9 par rapport aux fibres terrestres, les chercheurs pensent que les fibres spatiales offriront un d\u00e9bit et des temps de r\u00e9ponse sup\u00e9rieurs \u00e0 ceux des c\u00e2bles \u00e0 fibres optiques actuellement utilis\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le lot de test initial sera compos\u00e9 de 100 m\u00e8tres de fibre optique spatiale. Si cette fibre cultiv\u00e9e en microgravit\u00e9 s&#039;av\u00e8re nettement meilleure que la fibre actuellement utilis\u00e9e, de nouvelles installations devraient \u00eatre construites dans l&#039;espace pour produire en masse ces fibres de nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Andrew Rush, le chef du projet, pense que cette entreprise de fabrication spatiale pourrait devenir le catalyseur d&#039;un boom de la fabrication spatiale \u00e0 croissance rapide qui pourrait se r\u00e9percuter sur de nombreuses autres industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
