Le QDL utilise un mat\u00e9riau h\u00f4te laser qui est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement \u00e0 faible perte, sans stries et optiquement clair. Une multitude de points quantiques sont dispos\u00e9s dans le mat\u00e9riau h\u00f4te du laser\u00a0; les points quantiques sont de tr\u00e8s petits amas d&#039;atomes (environ 5 nanom\u00e8tres de diam\u00e8tre) et sont int\u00e9gr\u00e9s dans un mat\u00e9riau comme un polym\u00e8re. Une source lumineuse dynamise les points quantiques afin d&#039;induire la fluorescence. Avec un grand nombre de points quantiques dispos\u00e9s dans le mat\u00e9riau h\u00f4te, le laser se forme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La fluorescence des points quantiques se produit \u00e0 des longueurs d&#039;onde d\u00e9termin\u00e9es par le type de mat\u00e9riau et la taille ou le diam\u00e8tre du point. Par exemple, la longueur d&#039;onde fluorescente d&#039;un point quantique de s\u00e9l\u00e9niure de cadmium (g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement compos\u00e9 de s\u00e9l\u00e9niure de zinc ou de tellurure) a le potentiel de changer dans une plage pr\u00e9d\u00e9termin\u00e9e en modifiant son diam\u00e8tre physique.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&#039;application d&#039;une source de pompage excitera et induira une inversion de population de plus de 50% dans les points quantiques. Les points quantiques peuvent \u00eatre constitu\u00e9s de la m\u00eame taille et du m\u00eame mat\u00e9riau (pour une seule bande spectrale \u00e9troite), de diff\u00e9rents mat\u00e9riaux ou du m\u00eame mat\u00e9riau dans diff\u00e9rentes tailles, le tout afin d&#039;obtenir une gamme plus large de bandes spectrales. Des combinaisons existent qui permettent d&#039;obtenir une gamme spectrale encore plus large. Un filtrage et un r\u00e9glage appropri\u00e9s peuvent entra\u00eener des sorties laser \u00e0 largeur de bande tr\u00e8s \u00e9troite \u00e0 tr\u00e8s large; cela permet au laser de fournir une bande spectrale sp\u00e9cifique ou une large gamme de bandes sans avoir besoin de beaucoup de syst\u00e8mes de r\u00e9glage\/filtrage optiques et \u00e9lectro-optiques. \u00c9tant donn\u00e9 que les lasers
