Connue sous le nom de photonique sur silicium, la technologie comprend l&#039;installation de lasers et d&#039;autres composants optiques sur des puces en silicium, rempla\u00e7ant les composants traditionnellement utilis\u00e9s pour traiter les signaux \u00e9lectriques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les premi\u00e8res versions des puces, con\u00e7ues pour interconnecter des serveurs dans un centre de donn\u00e9es, sont capables de transmettre des donn\u00e9es \u00e0 une vitesse de 100 gigabits par seconde via un c\u00e2ble de seulement 5 mm de diam\u00e8tre. Les nouveaux c\u00e2bles sont une mise \u00e0 niveau des c\u00e2bles en cuivre existants, qui transportent des donn\u00e9es \u00e0 des vitesses allant jusqu&#039;\u00e0 40 gigabits par seconde. \u00c0 l&#039;avenir, des versions de la technologie photonique sur silicium pourraient \u00eatre d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es pour une utilisation en dehors des centres de donn\u00e9es, rempla\u00e7ant la norme de 5 gigabits utilis\u00e9e dans les produits de consommation courants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La photonique sur silicium augmente la vitesse de communication entre les serveurs des centres de donn\u00e9es et a le potentiel de r\u00e9duire consid\u00e9rablement les co\u00fbts de fonctionnement des centres de donn\u00e9es et d&#039;autres infrastructures optiques. La nouvelle technologie de c\u00e2ble optique est capable de remplacer plus de 10 des c\u00e2bles PCI-E en cuivre actuellement utilis\u00e9s pour connecter des serveurs sur le m\u00eame rack. Avec moins de c\u00e2bles, le flux d&#039;air critique utilis\u00e9 pour refroidir les serveurs rencontrera moins d&#039;obstacles, ce qui signifie que moins d&#039;\u00e9nergie est n\u00e9cessaire pour g\u00e9rer les temp\u00e9ratures. Le refroidissement repr\u00e9sentant environ la moiti\u00e9 du co\u00fbt de maintenance d&#039;un centre de donn\u00e9es, l&#039;augmentation de l&#039;efficacit\u00e9 du refroidissement devrait se traduire par une diminution des co\u00fbts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour mettre \u00e0 niveau les centres de donn\u00e9es existants, les serveurs devront \u00eatre \u00e9quip\u00e9s d&#039;un nouveau circuit imprim\u00e9 contenant plusieurs puces en silicium. Le but de la puce est de convertir les signaux \u00e9lectroniques d&#039;un ordinateur en signaux optiques n\u00e9cessaires pour parcourir la fibre et revenir \u00e0 l&#039;extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 de r\u00e9ception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le prix et la disponibilit\u00e9 de la photonique sur silicium n&#039;ont pas encore \u00e9t\u00e9 annonc\u00e9s et font toujours l&#039;objet de recherches approfondies, bien qu&#039;il soit rapport\u00e9 que Facebook, Microsoft et Amazon ont augment\u00e9 leurs investissements dans les centres de donn\u00e9es et sont susceptibles d&#039;\u00eatre
