Dans les ROADM typiques, les longueurs d'onde de la lumi\u00e8re traversent des commutateurs sur un chemin pr\u00e9d\u00e9termin\u00e9 qui ne peut pas \u00eatre facilement modifi\u00e9 en cas de forte congestion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
C'est l\u00e0 que le logiciel devient critique. \u00c0 l'aide de ROADM contr\u00f4l\u00e9s par logiciel, ils peuvent ajuster automatiquement la bande passante et d\u00e9tourner le trafic vers une longueur d'onde diff\u00e9rente. AT&T ajoute en outre que "les ROADM contr\u00f4l\u00e9s par logiciel peuvent augmenter ou r\u00e9duire la capacit\u00e9, contourner les probl\u00e8mes et revenir rapidement en ligne en cas de panne".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Le deuxi\u00e8me composant important est le mat\u00e9riel qui redirige les signaux. Les ROADM propri\u00e9taires sont sp\u00e9cifiques au fournisseur et fondamentalement non interop\u00e9rables, ce qui ralentit finalement tout type d'innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
En cr\u00e9ant le groupe OPEN ROADM, les sp\u00e9cifications mat\u00e9rielles deviendront open source. Selon OPEN ROADM, l'objectif principal est de "conduire vers une innovation et une concurrence plus rapides, ainsi que des volumes accrus gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une adoption massive, coupl\u00e9e \u00e0 la flexibilit\u00e9 de la couche optique et au contr\u00f4le logiciel pour surmonter tous les inconv\u00e9nients des syst\u00e8mes ROADM actuels".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
